The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed the launch of a manhunt for a 55-year-old man, Hamidu Ali, who allegedly killed his wife with a machete before fleeing the scene.

The tragic incident occurred on Friday, June 28, 2025, in Koriyel Village, Babangida, located in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of the state.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call around 11 a.m. reporting that Ali attacked his 40-year-old wife with a machete for reasons yet to be determined.

Police operatives have since commenced efforts to apprehend the suspect, who remains at large.

In a separate development, two suspects have been arrested in connection with the mob killing of a man accused of stealing a phone and power bank. The incident took place on Thursday, June 27, in Ngalda Town, Fika Local Government Area.

Abdulkarim revealed that officers from the Fika Divisional Police Headquarters arrested 25-year-old Musa Sule and 30-year-old Muntari Suleman for allegedly taking part in the fatal attack.

The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation and are currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as investigations continue ahead of prosecution.

Reacting to the disturbing cases, Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

He called for peaceful conflict resolution and encouraged the public to work closely with security agencies in ensuring law and order.

The police command reaffirmed its commitment to bringing all offenders to justice and maintaining peace across the state.
