The Supreme Court announced a valedictory session to honor the late Justice Emmanuel Olayinka Ayoola, former Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), scheduled for 2 PM on November 11 in Abuja.

This information was disclosed in a statement on Sunday by Dr. Festus Akande, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Supreme Court.

Justice Ayoola served on the Supreme Court from November 25, 1998, until his retirement on October 27, 2003, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70.

He passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 20, 2024, at the age of 90.

The statement described him as “a legal icon with a humble background,” noting that he was born on October 27, 1933, in Ilesha, Osun State.

It detailed his judicial career, highlighting that he was appointed a judge of the High Court in the former Western Nigeria on February 1, 1976, and later became a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Additionally, he held positions as Chief Justice of The Gambia and President of the Court of Appeal in Seychelles, among other roles.

The special session will be presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, who, alongside other key figures in the justice sector, will pay tribute to the late Justice Emmanuel Ayoola.
