The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured victories in all 13 chairmanship positions in the recent local government elections held across Nasarawa State. The announcement was made on Sunday evening by Barr. Ayuba Usman, Chairman of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), at the Commission’s headquarters in Lafia, the state capital.

The November 2 election results were officially declared, signaling the emergence of new chairmen and councillors across the state’s 13 local government areas and 147 wards.

Barr. Usman confirmed that APC candidates won all 13 chairmanship seats, while in the councillorship races, the party claimed victories in 140 out of 147 wards. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) secured five councillorship positions, and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) won two.

Providing a breakdown of the chairmanship results, he reported the following votes for each area: Lafia (217,573), Doma (70,545), Keana (35,094), Awe (59,206), Obi (93,486), Keffi (74,419), Kokona (53,057), Akwanga (82,075), Toto (43,792), Karu (146,450), Wamba (39,377), Nasarawa (96,358), and Nasarawa-Eggon (94,497).

He noted that the electoral process was peaceful and expressed gratitude to voters for their commitment to grassroots democracy. “The election reflected the collaboration and accessibility of all stakeholders, fostering increased political participation in the state,” Barr. Usman stated.

Despite challenges of voter apathy, which he attributed to community-based consensus, the turnout was significant. He emphasized that the participation of 14 political parties demonstrated widespread confidence in the electoral process. The use of technology, he added, enhanced the efficiency and transparency of the election.

“The success of the election was a result of a comprehensive awareness campaign by NASIEC, the cooperative efforts of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), and the steadfast dedication of security agencies in maintaining peace and public order,” he said.

Barr. Usman reiterated NASIEC’s commitment to upholding democratic values by ensuring credible, transparent, and acceptable election outcomes.

He also detailed that the two ZLP councillorship seats were won in Doma local government area, while the SDP secured four seats in Nasarawa-Eggon and one in Keffi local government area.
