The English Premier League (EPL) has officially announced the key dates for the 2025/26 season, set to begin on Saturday, August 16, 2025, and conclude on Sunday, May 24, 2026. The announcement, released late Friday via the league’s website, highlights strategic scheduling changes aimed at enhancing player welfare during the demanding festive period.

In a landmark decision, the EPL has ensured that no two match rounds will occur within 60 hours of each other during the holiday season, addressing long-standing concerns about fixture congestion.

Additionally, for the first time, no matches will be scheduled on Christmas Eve in 2025. These adjustments are expected to benefit both players and fans, allowing for a more balanced and enjoyable season.

“The schedule continues to allow more rest time for players over the festive match-round period, with no two rounds taking place within 60 hours of each other,” the statement read. “This is in keeping with commitments made to clubs to address the congested Christmas and New Year schedule.”

Key Highlights of the 2025/26 EPL Season:

Season Length: The campaign will span 33 weekends and include five midweek match rounds.

Rest Period: Players will enjoy an 83-day break between the conclusion of the 2024/25 season and the start of the new campaign.

World Cup Preparations: The May 24 end date ensures the season wraps up ahead of the FIFA 2026 World Cup call-up period, giving players ample preparation time for the global tournament.

The Premier League emphasized that these adjustments demonstrate its commitment to maintaining a competitive edge while prioritizing player well-being.

Fans can now look forward to another thrilling season, with these carefully planned changes promising an engaging and more sustainable experience.

“The start date of August 16 allows for the maximum player rest time available—83 clear days—from the end of the 2024/25 season,” the statement concluded. “The season end date of May 24, 2026, ensures the Premier League finishes ahead of the FIFA 2026 World Cup call-up period. There will be no fixture on December 24, 2025.”

The countdown to another unforgettable Premier League season has officially begun!
