The Senate Committee on Appropriations has called on the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, to provide detailed explanations regarding the savings from the removal of the fuel subsidy and how the proceeds have been utilized.

During a session, Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP, Bauchi Central) questioned the allocation of funds from the subsidy removal in the 2024 fiscal year. In response, Minister Edun requested a closed-door session to allow for a more comprehensive discussion. Following this, the committee chairman, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, directed journalists to vacate the room to enable the private meeting.

Budget Proposals of NOA and NAN Under Review

Earlier, the Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation examined budget proposals from the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). The committee, chaired by Senator Kenneth Eze (APC, Ebonyi Central), instructed both agencies to revise and resubmit their budget proposals for the 2025 fiscal year.

During the review, Senator Eze expressed concerns over the visibility of the NOA’s National Identity Project, particularly its impact on rural communities. He urged the agency to ensure its initiatives are more accessible to the public.

In defense of the project, the NOA’s Director-General highlighted its role in promoting a stronger national value system, describing it as essential for the country’s development.
