In a unexpected turn of events, the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Dennis Idahosa, lost his home local government, Ovia Southwest, to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the recently concluded Edo state elections.

Idahosa, who also serves as a lawmaker representing the Ovia federal constituency in the House of Representatives, saw his party secure 10,150 votes, falling short of the PDP’s 10,260 votes.

This defeat came despite widespread predictions favoring an APC victory, particularly due to Barrister Omosede Igbinedion’s defection from the PDP to the APC.

Igbinedion, who contested in Ovia Northeast local government, also experienced defeat, with the PDP gathering 15,311 votes compared to the APC’s 13,225 votes.

The outcomes in these key local government areas defied political forecasts, as it was believed that Igbinedion’s defection would sway the tide in favor of the APC.

Instead, the PDP retained dominance, reaffirming its hold on these constituencies.

The results have sparked discussions about the party dynamics within Edo state ahead of future political contests.
