The Federal Government has strongly condemned the deadly attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, where 25 students were abducted and the Vice-Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, was killed.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government said security and intelligence agencies have been directed to immediately locate, rescue, and ensure the safe return of the abducted students, while also bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The Minister conveyed the government’s deep concern, expressing solidarity with the families of the victims. He noted that President Bola Tinubu remains resolute in his commitment to protect all citizens, especially schoolchildren.
Idris said, “The government condemns the reprehensible attack on innocent students and the killing of school officials who were carrying out their noble duty. Our security and intelligence agencies have been issued clear directives to locate, rescue, and safely return the students, and to ensure that the perpetrators face justice. The Federal Government will not relent until this objective is achieved.”
He added that internal security remains a top priority, stressing that the government is “recalibrating the nation’s military, policing, and intelligence capabilities to more effectively prevent these attacks and respond with greater speed and precision whenever threats arise.”
The statement also highlighted Nigeria’s ongoing collaboration with regional partners through ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to strengthen border security and disrupt terrorist networks.
The attack occurred late Sunday when gunmen invaded the school in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, operating without resistance and causing widespread panic. Witnesses said the attackers killed the Vice-Principal before abducting the schoolgirls, plunging the community into fear and mourning.
