The national grid has suffered yet another collapse, as Nigerians continue to face prolonged power disruptions. According to PUNCH Online, this latest breakdown, which occurred on Tuesday, is the 11th in 2024 and follows ten similar incidents since January.

As of 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nigeria’s 22 power plants could generate only 2,323 megawatts, with output later plummeting to 0.00MW. Earlier in the day, the grid had peaked at a generation capacity of 3,743MW by 10 a.m.

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) reported the outage, stating, “Dear Esteemed Customer, please be informed that we experienced a system outage today, 7 November 2024, at 11:29 hrs, affecting supply within our network. Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders. Kindly bear with us.”

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has yet to issue an official update on this latest grid failure.
