The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ahead of the November 16 Ondo governorship election, confirmed that all sensitive election materials will arrive in Akure by Tuesday, November 12.
The announcement came on Thursday from INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, during a pre-election meeting held with stakeholders in Akure.
Professor Yakubu stated that critical election materials, including ballots and result sheets, would be delivered to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Akure branch early next week.
“We have arranged for the delivery of sensitive materials for the election to arrive as early as Tuesday next week,” Yakubu said.
He emphasized that representatives from political parties and other stakeholders would be invited to inspect the materials upon arrival to ensure transparency before they are distributed to local government areas and wards across the state.
INEC’s preparations, according to Yakubu, are geared toward ensuring a smooth and credible election process.
He highlighted that comprehensive logistical arrangements, including both land and maritime transportation, have been made to enable the secure and timely delivery of personnel and materials throughout Ondo State, ensuring access to polling units across the region.
“We have made arrangements for land and maritime transportation of personnel and materials,” he noted, adding that INEC has also collaborated with security agencies to safeguard the sensitive materials and personnel involved.
In the final days leading up to the election, INEC is conducting extensive preparations, including a mock accreditation of its Bimodal Voter Accreditation System in select locations across Ondo State.
Professor Yakubu reassured the public of INEC’s commitment to a transparent, secure, and well-organized election, aiming to uphold voters’ trust in the electoral process.
