President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday presented the 2025 budget proposal, totaling N47.9tn, to a joint session of the National Assembly.

The budget, titled ‘The Resurrection Budget: Security, Peace, Building Prosperity,’ allocates significant funding to security, infrastructure, health, and education.

“It is with great pleasure that I lay before this distinguished joint session of the National Assembly, the 2025 Budget of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Tinubu declared, concluding his address at 1:10 p.m.

Key highlights of the budget include: Defence and Security: N4.91tn, Infrastructure: N4.06tn, Health: N2.4tn and Education: N3.5tn.

During his address, Tinubu emphasized that food security is a top priority, stating, “Food security is non-negotiable.

The government is taking decisive steps to ensure Nigerians are well-fed and do not go to bed hungry.”

The President framed the 2025 budget as a call to action, urging collective efforts to overcome the nation’s challenges.

“Our nation faces existential threats from corruption and insecurity.

These challenges are surmountable when we work collaboratively.

We must rewrite the narrative of this nation,” Tinubu said, adding, “The time for lamentation is over.

The time to act is now.”

Tinubu was accompanied by top government officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The budget presentation, initially scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed to Wednesday following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
