The First Lady of Osun State, Mrs. Titilola Adeleke, urged residents to take advantage of free diabetes and hypertension screenings provided through the Nigeria Governor’s Forum and the World Health Organisation.

Speaking in Osogbo on Monday at the launch of “Project 10 Million,” a national initiative to screen 10 million Nigerians for these non-communicable diseases, Adeleke highlighted the urgency of tackling the rising rates of hypertension and diabetes.

During the event, she emphasized the need for residents to proactively monitor their health, noting that these diseases account for approximately 27% of annual deaths in Nigeria.

“Project 10 Million is a critical health initiative aimed at addressing the growing impact of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), particularly hypertension and diabetes,” Adeleke stated.

she further added that, “These diseases pose a serious threat to the well-being of our communities.”

Adeleke announced the “Know Your Numbers, Control Your Numbers” campaign, a collaborative effort led by Health Commissioners from Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory and endorsed by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

Running from October 28 to November 3, the initiative will provide screenings for nearly 10 million Nigerians.

Encouraging residents to participate, Adeleke stated, “By knowing your numbers, you are taking a significant step toward managing your health. Together, we can make a difference and create a healthier future.”

Osun’s Commissioner for Health, Mr. Jola Akinola, reinforced the state’s commitment to public health, affirming that the initiative aligns with the government’s dedication to improving healthcare access.

Akinola added that the campaign would raise awareness on the risks associated with non-communicable diseases and provide immediate counseling and treatment where necessary.
