The Super Falcons of Nigeria produced a dominant second-half display to defeat Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses 3-0 in the second of their two international friendly matches at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Monday.

After a closely contested and goalless first half, the nine-time African champions found their cutting edge after the break to secure an emphatic victory in front of their home supporters.

Nigeria started brightly and earned an early set-piece in the opening minute, with captain Rasheedat Ajibade orchestrating the attack, but the opportunity went begging. Joy Omewa soon threatened the Senegalese defence as the hosts looked to establish an early lead.

Despite controlling large spells of the opening half, the Super Falcons were unable to convert their chances. Gift Monday remained a constant menace for the visitors, while Omewa came closest in the 15th minute when she rounded the goalkeeper only to see her effort crash against the woodwork.

The breakthrough eventually arrived three minutes into the second half.

Shukurat Oladipo delivered a pinpoint cross in the 48th minute and Omewa rose highest to head home and hand Nigeria a deserved lead.

The forward doubled the advantage seven minutes later, showing strength and composure to force her way through the Senegal defence before calmly slotting past the goalkeeper for her second goal of the evening.

Nigeria’s superiority was further rewarded in the 66th minute when Ajibade embarked on a surging run before setting up substitute Asisat Oshoala, who had replaced Omewa, to add a third goal and put the contest beyond the visitors.

The victory capped an impressive outing for the Super Falcons, who translated their second-half dominance into goals while maintaining defensive discipline throughout the encounter.

The performance also underlined the team’s attacking depth and resilience as the reigning African champions continued preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
