The Nigeria Patriotic Front Movement (NPFM) has announced plans to stage a nationwide peaceful protest on August 1, 2025, in honour of individuals reportedly killed, missing, or unlawfully imprisoned during the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations held in August 2024.
Addressing journalists during a press conference in Kano on Wednesday, the National Chairman of the NPFM, Abdulmajid Daudu, said the protest is aimed at commemorating the victims of last year’s crackdown and amplifying public demands for justice and accountability from the government.
According to Daudu, the group intends to march across various cities to remember those who paid the price for demanding better governance. He insisted that the state must publicly apologise to the affected families and compensate them as a matter of justice and moral obligation.
The movement stressed that the August 1 protest would be carried out peacefully, adding that it is a constitutional right to gather and demand good governance.
Daudu emphasized that Nigerians must not allow fear or state repression to stifle their voices or erase the memory of those who stood up against systemic failures.
“We are marching to uphold the legacy of those silenced by repression, to demand radical reforms in governance, and to remind the regime that silence in the face of injustice only emboldens oppression,” he said.
Among the NPFM’s key demands are a drastic improvement in national security, significant reductions in fuel prices and the overall cost of living, and the prompt settlement of outstanding pension and gratuity payments.
The movement reiterated its commitment to sustained advocacy and mass mobilisation until the current administration addresses the outlined concerns or is held accountable through democratic means.
