The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has denied allegations that it demolished a building at 1A Olubunmi Owa Street, Off Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, Eti-Osa, Lagos.

The denial comes in response to a viral video circulating online, which the agency says misrepresents its actions.

According to a statement released on Friday by LASBCA’s Assistant Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Adu Adegoke, the agency clarified that the removal of an attachment to the building was carried out by the property owner and not LASBCA.

The General Manager of LASBCA, Mr. Gbolahan Oki, explained that the owner’s actions were unauthorized, as they did not follow due process or obtain the necessary permits.

He stated that LASBCA had served the property owner multiple notices, including convention, seal-off, and quit notices, instructing the removal of the illegal structure.

During a routine enforcement exercise, LASBCA officials reportedly discovered that the attachment had been demolished illegally by the owner.

They also encountered resistance from some occupants who had failed to comply with building regulations.

The agency expressed concern that the viral video misled the public by portraying its officials in a negative light.

The video allegedly showed an individual obstructing LASBCA officials and admitting to receiving notices, contradicting claims made in the footage.

LASBCA reaffirmed its commitment to urban regeneration, sustainable development, and strict enforcement of building regulations to ensure a safe and orderly Lagos State.

The agency assured residents that it would continue to uphold its mandate despite attempts to distort facts.

The statement emphasized LASBCA’s dedication to fostering an environment free from environmental and security nuisances while adhering to the state’s urban development goals.
