The Kogi State Government has pledged to collaborate with security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the jailbreak at the Federal Correctional Centre, Kotonkarfe, where 12 inmates escaped. One of the escapees has already been rearrested.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, dismissed the notion of a mere jailbreak, describing it as “unacceptable” due to clear evidence of internal compromise and collusion.

“The jailbreak theory is unacceptable to the Kogi State Government as there are clear evidences of internal compromise and collaboration, leading to the unfortunate breach,” the statement read.

The government confirmed that the rearrested inmate is providing critical intelligence to security agencies. Authorities have vowed to closely monitor the investigation and ensure that all culpable individuals—whether inmates or accomplices—face justice.

Praising the swift response of security agencies, the government called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. “Any individual or community found harbouring escaped inmates will be held accountable,” the statement warned.

Reassuring the public, Fanwo affirmed that the situation remains under control. “The government, in collaboration with security agencies, is fully in control of the situation. We encourage everyone to continue their daily activities peacefully, knowing that decisive action is being taken to safeguard lives and property,” he concluded.
