The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has refuted recent claims that it disregarded directives from the Minister of Power regarding customer disconnections.

In a statement released on Friday by Sani Sani, Head of Corporate Communications, KEDCO clarified its position following reports by AREWA Punch Report.

The statement emphasized, “KEDCO has not defied any directives from the Minister of Power.

The outage that resulted in a blackout across parts of the north lasted from 4:57 a.m. on October 21 to 4:56 p.m. on October 30, 2024.”

Addressing billing concerns, Sani explained that the current bills being collected are for September’s electricity consumption, issued in October.

“Customers who haven’t paid their September bills are being disconnected, as these were unaffected by the outage period,” he stated.

Sani assured that KEDCO would fully comply with the minister’s directive to exclude billing for the outage period from October 21 to October 30, with adjustments to be reflected in November’s bills.

KEDCO reiterated its commitment to regulatory compliance and fair billing practices.

“We remain dedicated to improving the quality and reliability of electricity supply for our customers,” Sani added, urging timely bill payments to support KEDCO and the power sector at large.
