Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, on Monday presented a proposed budget of ₦682 billion for the 2025 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly.

The budget, tagged the “Budget of Consolidation,” marks a significant 40% increase from the previous year’s allocation, reflecting the administration’s focus on driving growth across key sectors.

The proposed budget comprises ₦157.97 billion (23.15%) for recurrent expenditure and ₦524.27 billion (76.85%) for capital expenditure.

Education and agriculture were identified as the top priorities, each receiving 14% of the budget, with allocations of ₦95.99 billion and ₦81.84 billion, respectively.

Other notable allocations include:
Works, Housing, and Transport: ₦68.48 billion (10%), Rural and Social Development: ₦58.73 billion (9%), Water Resources: ₦53.83 billion (8%), Environment: ₦49.84 billion (7%),Health: ₦43.88 billion (6%) and Internal Security and Home Affairs: ₦18.94 billion (3%).

Governor Radda highlighted the achievements of the 2024 budget, emphasizing improvements in basic services, revenue generation, and project implementation.

“We have achieved many of our goals, and my administration is on course to meet and exceed its targets,” he stated.

Despite significant national and global economic challenges, including inflation, naira devaluation, and the removal of fuel subsidie, Radda commended his administration’s resilience and efficiency.

“When I presented the 2024 budget, the naira stood at ₦816 to the dollar.

Today, it is ₦1,725, a 100% depreciation.

Yet, we have navigated these uncertainties while prioritizing our people’s welfare,” he said.

The governor attributed rising costs to global factors, including the Russia-Ukraine war and the Yemen crisis, which have disrupted wheat imports and increased shipping costs.

Nonetheless, he assured residents of his administration’s unwavering commitment to mitigating hardships and achieving developmental goals.

He expressed gratitude to development partners, civil servants, and security personnel for their contributions to the state’s progress.

Speaker of the State Assembly, Nasir Daura, lauded the governor for presenting a forward-looking budget.

“The provisions included in the budget demonstrate a strong intention to combat crime and improve living standards,” Daura remarked.

He emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to thorough oversight and collaboration to ensure the budget’s successful implementation, noting the harmonious relationship among the state’s executive, legislative, and judicial arms.

Radda urged the Assembly to expedite the budget’s passage, highlighting its potential to consolidate the administration’s gains and stimulate economic growth in Katsina State.
