The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended four of its key national officers for alleged involvement in anti-party activities.

The suspended officials include the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature; National Legal Adviser, Kamal Deen Ajibade (SAN); and Deputy National Legal Adviser, Barr. Okechukwu Osuoha.

Their suspension, which takes immediate effect, will last for one month pending further investigation by the party’s National Disciplinary Committee.

During the suspension period, the affected officials are barred from performing their official duties.

Addressing journalists after an emergency NWC meeting held at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Saturday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the decision followed a review of members’ conduct and adherence to party discipline.

“The NWC has reviewed the party’s activities, especially in the recent past, and some decisions were taken,” Ologunagba stated. “You will recall that on August 8, 2025, the party issued a reprimand to members over anti-party activities. From then till now, the party reviewed the activities of some members working against its interest and has reached the following decisions today.”

He explained that the actions of the affected officials contravened provisions of the PDP constitution relating to party discipline and conduct.

“Anybody who breaches any part of the constitution or manifesto, or says or does anything under Section 58 that will bring the party into disrepute, hatred, or contempt, disobeys lawful directives, or engages in conduct likely to cause disaffection among members, shall face disciplinary action,” he said.

According to Ologunagba, the NWC resolved that:

“The National Legal Adviser, Kamal Ajibade (SAN), is suspended for 30 days and referred to the National Disciplinary Committee. The Deputy National Legal Adviser, Barr. Okechukwu Osuoha, is also suspended for 30 days and referred to the committee. During this period, they cease to function in their respective offices.”

“The National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar Bature, is suspended for a period of one month and referred to the National Disciplinary Committee.”

“The National Secretary, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, is likewise suspended for one month and referred to the committee. In line with Section 36(2) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), the Deputy National Secretary, Hon. Arch. Setonji Koshedo, shall act as National Secretary during the suspension.”

Ologunagba added that the Director of Legal Services has been authorised to oversee the department during the suspension of the Legal Adviser and his deputy.
