‘I Have Two Things in Mind’ — Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle Hints at Tactical Options Against Tunisia

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has revealed that he has prepared two different tactical approaches for Nigeria’s crucial Group C clash against Tunisia on Saturday in Fez, but declined to disclose which option he will deploy.

The Malian tactician, speaking ahead of the decisive encounter, said his decision would be guided by respect for the quality of the Tunisian side, while maintaining an element of surprise.

“I have two things in mind,” Chelle said in a post shared on X, formerly Twitter. “To give the ball to Tunisia or continue my philosophy, but I can’t tell you which I will go with because Tunisia are a great team.”

Chelle’s comments suggest a carefully considered game plan rather than uncertainty. One option would see Nigeria concede possession and rely on quick transitions, potentially exploiting the pace and attacking threat of Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen on the counterattack. The alternative would involve sticking to his preferred attacking philosophy, with the Super Eagles seeking to dominate possession and control the tempo of the game.

The 47-year-old coach struck a calm and confident tone, offering reassurance to supporters that the team is well prepared for the high-stakes encounter. His remarks reflected composure and conviction, with no indication of panic as Nigeria targets qualification for the knockout stage.

Chelle also acknowledged the strength of the Carthage Eagles, who are known for their defensive organisation and attacking quality, particularly through in-form winger Elias Achouri. His comments were framed as respect for the opposition rather than apprehension.

Observers note that Chelle’s readiness to alternate between a possession-based approach and a more pragmatic setup highlights his tactical flexibility, which could prove decisive in a tightly contested match.

With preparations complete and strategies in place, attention now turns to execution on the pitch, as the Super Eagles face a defining test on Saturday evening with a place in the Round of 16 at stake.
