Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has been awarded an Award of Excellence by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Adamawa State Chapter, in recognition of his significant contributions to healthcare development in the state.

The award was presented by Dr. Yunusa Dahiru, Chairman of NMA Adamawa Chapter, who praised Governor Fintiri’s visionary leadership and dedication to improving the welfare of healthcare workers and enhancing medical services. Dr. Dahiru highlighted the governor’s implementation of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) and the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), which has boosted the morale and welfare of healthcare professionals across the state.

Governor Fintiri’s notable achievements include the construction of seven new cottage hospitals, the establishment and funding of the Adamawa State Health Insurance Scheme, and the provision of funds to support vulnerable citizens in need of medical care. These initiatives have significantly improved healthcare delivery in Adamawa, helping to stem the internal and external migration of doctors and other health professionals.

Dr. Dahiru also commended the governor for his role in converting Futy Yola into a conventional university, allowing the institution to train medical doctors and professionals in allied health sciences. Additionally, Governor Fintiri’s swift and effective response to the recent cholera outbreak showcased his exceptional leadership in public health crisis management.

Beyond healthcare, Governor Fintiri has overseen various infrastructure development projects, including the construction of access roads and drainage systems in Yola South. In recognition of his efforts, the community named one of the roads Umar Badami Road after the governor’s father.

During the award ceremony, Dr. Dahiru called on the state government to support an upcoming medical outreach program scheduled for October 26-30, 2024, at Gulak General Hospital. The initiative aims to perform 100 surgeries and provide consultations to 2,000 patients.

In response, Governor Fintiri expressed his gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing healthcare development in Adamawa State. He praised healthcare workers for their resilience and assured the NMA of continued government support to enhance healthcare services in the state.

“We will continue to render all necessary support to the NMA Adamawa Chapter to boost healthcare services,” Governor Fintiri stated.

The Award of Excellence serves as a testament to Governor Fintiri’s dedication to improving healthcare delivery and uplifting the welfare of healthcare workers in Adamawa State.
