Nigeria’s Flying Eagles bounced back from their opening defeat to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory over Saudi Arabia in their second group game at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

After a narrow 1-0 loss to Norway in their opener, Nigeria entered the match under pressure to respond, while Saudi Arabia were also chasing their first points following a 1-0 defeat to Colombia.

The Flying Eagles started brightly, taking the lead in the 10th minute when Nasiru Salihu finished off a pass from Suleiman Sani. Saudi Arabia drew level in the 21st minute through Amar Al Yuhaybi, who was set up by Hamed Youssef.

Nigeria regained the lead in the 38th minute with a stunning strike from Amos Ochoche, assisted by Salihu, to head into the break 2-1 up.

Saudi Arabia hit back again early in the second half, as Talal Haji converted in the 50th minute following Mohammed Barnawi’s assist.

The decisive moment came deep into stoppage time when Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi held his nerve to score from the penalty spot, sealing all three points for Nigeria.

The win lifts the Flying Eagles to third in the group standings, after Colombia and Norway played out a goalless draw in the other fixture.

Nigeria will face Colombia in their final group match, while Saudi Arabia will complete their group campaign against Norway.
