The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is gearing up for a captivating weekend as two Super Eagles legends, Finidi George and Emmanuel Amuneke, prepare to go head-to-head from the dugouts.

In what promises to be a thrilling encounter, Finidi’s Rivers United will host Amuneke’s Heartland FC in Port Harcourt on Super Sunday. The match takes on added significance with both coaches being football icons, making it one of the most highly anticipated fixtures of the weekend.

The clash between the two former teammates comes with added drama, as both Finidi and Amuneke were previously in the running to become the Super Eagles head coach. Finidi ultimately secured the role, taking over from Jose Peseiro, while Amuneke continued his coaching journey in the NPFL.

Now, these football greats find themselves on opposing sides, each aiming to guide their teams to victory after underwhelming starts to the season.

Rivers United, under Finidi, earned a 1-1 draw away against Bendel Insurance, despite playing with ten men for part of the match. Meanwhile, Amuneke’s Heartland FC suffered a 3-1 loss to Enyimba in their season opener, despite initially leading 1-0.

The showdown between Finidi and Amuneke is one of five exciting NPFL matches scheduled for Sunday, promising a weekend of high-stakes football action.
