The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the implementation of free bus services for residents across the state. The initiative, operated through the state-owned Edo City Transport Service (ECTS), aligns with the governor’s policy direction, “A New Edo Has Risen.”

This development, announced in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, aims to alleviate transportation challenges for residents in the Benin metropolis and across the three senatorial districts of Edo State.

“The bus services will ease the transportation stress. Our people who plan to move around within the Benin metropolis and out will be able to do that without any extra financial burdens,” the statement read.

Coverage Across the State

The free transportation scheme extends to both intra-city and inter-city routes, ensuring broad access for residents in Edo South, Central, and North.

Edo Central: Key towns such as Ekpoma, Iruekpen, Irrua, Uromi, and surrounding areas will benefit from the service.

Edo North: Communities including Agbede, Auchi, Okpella, and Fugar are fully covered under the initiative.

The move underscores the governor’s commitment to improving the welfare of all Edo residents by reducing the financial strain of transportation.

With this initiative, Governor Okpebholo continues to prioritize policies that promote social welfare and inclusivity, furthering his administration’s vision of a united and prosperous Edo State.
