Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has been announced as one of the headline performers for FIFA’s World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert, further cementing Nigeria’s growing influence on the global entertainment stage ahead of football’s biggest tournament.
The Grammy-nominated artiste will perform at the June 10 concert at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, one of three simultaneous events scheduled across the tournament’s host nations — the United States, Canada and Mexico — as FIFA builds momentum towards the 2026 World Cup.
Davido will share the stage with Major Lazer at the Los Angeles concert, which FIFA said will be broadcast to audiences worldwide.
“On June 10, the FIFA Countdown Concert in collaboration with the Grammys comes to Crypto.com Arena, featuring performances by Diplo’s Major Lazer, Davido, and more special guests to be announced soon,” FIFA said in a post on its official World Cup Instagram page.
The announcement marks another chapter in Davido’s association with FIFA. In 2022, he featured on the World Cup soundtrack, Hayya Hayya (Better Together), before performing at the closing ceremony of the tournament in Qatar.
His latest selection highlights both his international appeal and the continued rise of Afrobeats as a global musical force.
Davido is not the only Nigerian artiste set to feature prominently at the tournament. Fellow Afrobeats star Rema has already been confirmed among the performers for the World Cup opening ceremonies alongside an international lineup that includes Katy Perry, Future, Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé, J Balvin and Lisa.
According to FIFA, the opening celebration in Los Angeles will feature Perry, Rema, Future, Lisa, Brazilian singer Anitta and South African star Tyla, with additional performers expected to be announced.
Meanwhile, Burna Boy has already left his mark on the tournament after collaborating with Colombian superstar Shakira on Dai Dai, the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Released through FIFA and Sony Music Latin, the track combines Burna Boy’s Afrobeats sound with Shakira’s Latin pop influence, delivering a message centred on unity, resilience and the universal appeal of football.
With Davido set to headline FIFA’s countdown concert, Rema scheduled to perform at the opening ceremonies, and Burna Boy featuring on the tournament’s official anthem, Nigerian music is poised to enjoy unprecedented global exposure as the world turns its attention to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
