The House of Representatives has commenced a public investigation into allegations surrounding the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), despite ongoing probes by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Nigeria Police Force.
The House ad hoc committee, chaired by the Chairman of the House Committee on Navy, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, was established to investigate how the alleged agency found its way into the 2026 federal budget and determine whether government procedures were circumvented in the process.
The committee is expected to be inaugurated by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas before holding its first public hearing at the National Assembly in Abuja. Invitations have been extended to relevant ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), civil society organisations and other stakeholders to submit memoranda and participate in the proceedings.
According to sources familiar with the process, the investigation is intended to demonstrate the House’s commitment to transparency, accountability and due process in addressing the allegations.
“In line with your verbal approval during our discussion, the Inaugural Sitting and Public Hearing has been scheduled for Monday, 20th July, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in Room 028, House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
“We have already commenced invitations to relevant MDAs and Civil Society Organisations, and other stakeholders, to submit memoranda and attend the public hearing.”
The probe comes as President Bola Tinubu has already directed the ICPC to investigate allegations of corruption linked to the PFIPC and submit a comprehensive report within 30 days. The investigation reportedly covers allegations of forged government documents, fake presidential appointments, fraudulent bank accounts and questionable budget allocations.
Meanwhile, the Director-General of the alleged agency, Adeniyi Adeyemi, remains in police custody following his arrest in Osun State after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered his arrest over allegations including conspiracy, forgery and impersonation. It remains unclear whether he will appear before the House committee to respond to the allegations.
