China has launched a new plan called the Global Governance Initiative (GGI). The idea is to make the way the world is governed fairer, more balanced, and more focused on solving real problems.

President Xi Jinping announced the initiative on September 1, 2025, during a global meeting in Tianjin. The GGI joins three earlier proposals from China — the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative. Together, they outline China’s vision for how countries should work together.

According to Chinese officials, the GGI aims to give developing countries, especially those in Africa and the Global South, a stronger voice in major international organizations. They argue it will help correct “historical injustices” and make global systems more equal.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi explained that the plan rests on five main principles: all countries are equal, international law should be respected, multilateral cooperation should be strengthened, people’s welfare should come first, and actions must lead to real results.

The initiative has gained support from several countries and international organizations. In Africa, including Nigeria, leaders and experts have welcomed the plan, saying it matches their development goals and desire for fairer representation.
China says the next step is to work with partners to turn the GGI into practical projects in areas like trade, climate change, health, and digital technology.
