A joyous wedding celebration in Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State turned tragic after food served at the reception was allegedly poisoned, leaving one guest dead and the groom critically ill.
The incident, which unfolded during the ceremony, has shocked the community. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the bride may have acted out of personal grievances, though details remain unclear.
Confirming the unfortunate development, the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, disclosed that the bride and another female suspect have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Both are currently being interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department as part of an ongoing investigation.
Authorities revealed that while all other wedding attendees who consumed the tainted food have been discharged from the hospital, one person tragically lost their life.
The groom, however, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The police assured the public that efforts are underway to uncover the facts surrounding the incident and emphasized their commitment to ensuring justice. “We urge the public to remain calm as we continue our investigation,” Adam stated.
The identities of the deceased, the groom, and other affected victims have not yet been disclosed, and further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
