The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, expressed confidence in the ability of Acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, to invigorate Nigeria’s counterterrorism and security efforts, should he be confirmed as the substantive COAS.

General Musa made these remarks during the screening of the Acting COAS by the Senate and House Committees on Army on Wednesday.

He praised the thoroughness and professionalism displayed during the process.

A statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, emphasized the CDS’s assurance that Lt. Gen. Oluyede would continue to build on the legacy of his predecessor, the late Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, in addressing the nation’s security challenges.

“The CDS described the prompt action of the National Assembly as patriotic and timely, especially at this critical juncture,” the statement read.

General Musa reiterated the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s unwavering loyalty to the nation’s constituted authority and its commitment to fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities.
