Nigeria continued their winning streak at the 2024 African Military Games in Abuja, overpowering Burkina Faso 3-0 in the men’s volleyball event on Tuesday. The sets ended 25-10, 25-16, and 25-19, securing Nigeria’s second victory in the tournament.

The match was largely one-sided, with Nigeria asserting dominance early on. SLT Seiyefa Dikiyai led the charge with powerful spikes that dismantled Burkina Faso’s defense in the opening set, which Nigeria wrapped up at 25-10.

Although Burkina Faso showed more determination in the second set, they were unable to counter Nigeria’s firepower. Elisha Anebi’s precise deliveries to Emmanuel Briggs and Cyril Iritabor proved pivotal, as Nigeria closed the set at 25-16.

In the third set, Nigeria maintained their momentum, with SLT Seiyefa Dikiyai once again spearheading the attack. The set ended 25-19, sealing the win and earning Dikiyai the Most Valuable Player (MVP) title for his exceptional performance.

Head coach MWO Solomon Zango expressed pride in the team’s performance, highlighting their execution of game strategies and teamwork.

“The team showed great determination and teamwork, executing our strategies well, especially in the first set. The boys played with confidence, and we were able to maintain control throughout the match,” Zango said.

He commended Dikiyai’s standout performance and the team’s collective effort, adding, “We’ve been working hard on our attack, and it’s clear that the hard work is paying off. We need to keep this momentum going for the upcoming matches.”

Looking ahead, Zango stressed the importance of consistency. “It’s crucial that we stay focused and maintain this level of performance. There are tougher challenges ahead, but if we continue to play as a unit, we can go far in this tournament,” he noted.

In other matches, Ghana defeated Sierra Leone 3-0 (25-21, 25-9, 25-10), with Gyamerah Augustine earning the MVP award for his stellar play. Meanwhile, Algeria triumphed over Kenya 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-15, 26-24), with Dour Djabir named MVP for his exceptional contribution.

The African Military Games 2024 continues to showcase thrilling volleyball action as teams battle for supremacy in Abuja.
