The Rivers State Police Command has announced the neutralization of a notorious kidnapper and cultist, Gbarani Bume, also known as Pelele, in the Luawii Community of Khana Local Government Area.

Bume, a member of the infamous Iceland Cult Group, had been terrorizing the Beree/Tabaa axis of Khana LGA with his gang. According to the State Police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, the suspect and his gang attempted to abduct a site engineer working in Luawii when police operatives, acting on a tip-off, intervened.

Upon sighting the police, the gang opened fire, leading to a fierce gunfight. Bume was fatally wounded during the exchange, and his accomplices fled with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.

Iringe-Koko confirmed that the police recovered one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 10 rounds of live ammunition from the scene.

“The Rivers State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its efforts to combat crime, neutralizing a notorious cultist and kidnapper, Gbarani Bume, a.k.a. Pelele, a native of Bere Community in Khana LGA,” she said.

An investigation is underway, and efforts are being intensified to capture the remaining members of the gang. The police spokesperson emphasized that the operation highlights the Command’s ongoing commitment to fighting crime and ensuring public safety across the state.
