The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has clarified its position regarding the removal of Nigeria’s fuel subsidy, emphasizing that the decision was made solely by the Nigerian government.

Speaking at a briefing held during the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, DC, IMF’s African Region Director, Abebe Selassie, reiterated the organization’s non-involvement in Nigeria’s internal policy choices.

“The decision was a domestic one.

We don’t have programs in Nigeria.

Our role is limited to regular dialogue, as we have with other nations like Japan or the UK,” Selassie stated.

Further details on the IMF’s stance are expected to follow.
