Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged to bring to justice those responsible for the recent arson attacks on local government secretariats in the state.

The governor made this commitment on Tuesday while swearing in four new commissioners at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

Suspected political thugs recently set ablaze secretariats in Ikwerre, Emohua, and Eleme Local Government Areas, sparking widespread concern. Addressing the incidents, Fubara expressed his administration’s determination to collaborate with security agencies to ensure that the culprits are apprehended and prosecuted.

“We won’t stand by and watch political thugs wreak havoc in Rivers State,” Fubara stated firmly. “Those behind these attacks will account for their atrocities.”

The governor’s remarks followed his earlier warning to the public about intelligence reports suggesting a plot to prevent newly elected council chairmen from taking office. He described the recent arson as a direct outcome of these threats.

“I said it before it happened. Those behind this are unhappy and have gone to extreme lengths to sow discord among our people. But we won’t allow this to go unpunished. We will work with security agencies to uncover those responsible and ensure they face justice,” Fubara emphasized.

He also commended the people of Rivers State for their patience and restraint in the aftermath of the attacks, despite the outrage it has caused. He urged residents to maintain peace and avoid taking matters into their own hands.

“As your leader, I assure you I will not mislead you. We must remain peaceful, even though we are angry. Meeting violence with violence will only make us the greatest losers,” Fubara cautioned.

The governor’s vow signals a strong stance against political violence in the state and reinforces his administration’s commitment to upholding law and order.
