The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned President Bola Tinubu’s 64th Independence Day speech, describing it as an indication of the administration’s insensitivity to the struggles of Nigerians. In a statement issued by PDP spokesman Debo Ologunagba, the opposition party expressed disappointment, stating that the speech provided no solutions to the economic and security challenges facing the country.
The PDP criticized the president for not addressing the “life-suffocating policies” that have worsened the economic hardship and poverty in the country. Ologunagba added that the speech trivialized the severity of the issues, especially the claim that only 10% of Nigerians are facing hunger, while reports suggest over 100 million people struggle to afford basic necessities.
The party also noted the government’s failure to reduce fuel prices, stimulate the economy, and improve employment opportunities, particularly for the youth. The PDP accused the administration of being disconnected from the realities of the average Nigerian and failing to restore the value of the Naira.
Additionally, the PDP expressed concerns over the administration’s commitment to democracy, highlighting the absence of any meaningful stance on credible elections and constitutional rights in the president’s address.
