Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has expressed his openness to collaborating with others who share his vision for advancing Nigeria.
Following an interview on News Central Television, which went viral on Thursday, Obi has been receiving calls from supporters and members of the Obidient Movement seeking clarity on his political ambitions.
In a series of posts on his official X handle, Obi clarified that he is not desperate to become president or to hold any position but is committed to seeing Nigeria develop.
He emphasized that he never stated he would be a vice-presidential candidate to anyone in the interview.
“I have been inundated with calls and concerns regarding the interview I granted to News Central TV.
Some fifth columnists have resorted to propaganda, deliberately distorting the narrative,” Obi stated.
He reiterated, “I do not want to be one of those preoccupied with 2027 while Nigerians are suffering from hunger, poverty, insecurity, and other pressing challenges.”
Obi emphasized his openness to working with others whose intentions align with his vision for Nigeria’s progress and are not centered on state capture.
He remains committed to the Labour Party and is focused on initiatives like bringing millions of out-of-school children back into classrooms.
“When 2027 arrives, if I decide to run for any office, it will not be with those whose sole aim is state capture or merely winning an election,” he stated.
He called for a focus on tangible plans to address pressing issues, such as ensuring no child is left behind and pulling people out of poverty.
Obi made it clear that he is willing to work with those committed to building a new Nigeria and that his dedication to the country remains steadfast, regardless of holding an official position.
“My commitment to Nigeria remains steadfast, and I even believe it is possible to contribute to its progress without occupying any office, as I am already doing,” he added.
