The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, has dismissed calls to strip Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, of her status as an ordained pastor, insisting that her position is divinely guided and not subject to political influence.
Adeboye made the clarification amid mounting criticism and pressure from some quarters, stressing that spiritual appointments within the church are not determined by political considerations. According to him, the ordination of Mrs Tinubu remains valid and cannot be reversed due to external pressures.“We won’t remove her as an ordained pastor due to political pressure,” Adeboye stated.
He emphasised that her pastoral role was based on spiritual conviction and the church’s internal processes, rather than her political affiliation or status as First Lady.Oluremi Tinubu was ordained as an assistant pastor in the church in 2018 during its annual convention, a role she has continued to hold alongside her political career.
The development comes amid ongoing public debate over the intersection of religion and politics in Nigeria, particularly involving high-profile public office holders with religious titles.
