The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reportedly agreed to pay Super Eagles players $30,000 each as a bonus for reaching the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The federation had initially proposed a bonus of $15,000 per player for qualification to the knockout stage, but the offer was rejected by the team. However, according to SCORENigeria, the players’ demand for $30,000 each has now been accepted.
“They have agreed to pay what the players want,” a source disclosed.
It was also learnt that bonuses for subsequent stages of the tournament have been finalised and agreed upon between the NFF and the players.
In a related development, the Super Eagles have already earned $25,000 from the goals bonus promised to the team at the tournament. Under the arrangement, each goal scored in Morocco attracts a $5,000 bonus.
Having scored five goals so far, the Eagles have accrued $25,000, making them the highest-scoring team at the competition after two rounds of matches.
The team’s attacking output marks a shift from their approach at the 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire, where goals were harder to come by due to a more defensive strategy adopted under former coach Jose Peseiro.
Under current head coach Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles have shown greater attacking intent and could have scored more goals with improved efficiency in front of goal.
However, despite their scoring form, the team is yet to keep a clean sheet in Morocco, having conceded three goals in two matches. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who was part of the squad at the last AFCON, has retained his place between the posts.
