Five mutilated bodies were found on the Oreta riverbank in the Igbogbo community of Ikorodu, Lagos State, in what police say may be linked to cult violence. The victims, all young men, were discovered face-down in clothing that stood out: one wore a blue hoodie, and another was dressed in a black-and-white shirt, both with visible bloodstains.

Lagos State Police Commissioner Olohundare Jimoh confirmed that scene-of-crime experts have been deployed to the site to conduct a thorough investigation. “That is why we are investigating. You know that we recovered the bodies and sent scene-of-crime experts to the place. The team has briefed me, and we have given more directives on areas to touch. We will make the outcome of the investigation public,” he said, urging calm and vigilance among community members.

Noting a rise in cult-related incidents across the state, Commissioner Jimoh highlighted the police response: “I have created anti-cultism groups in every area command. Parents and guardians must also be urged to advise and compel their children to stop cultism, as we are seeing attacks and counterattacks.” More than 26 suspects have already been arrested in connection with similar cases statewide.
