Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the National Assembly, has officially resigned from the Labour Party (LP) and declared her allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which now serves as a coalition platform for opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Addressing journalists in Abuja shortly after a high-level meeting, Senator Kingibe expressed her full commitment to the new political movement, aligning herself with its broader goals for national transformation.

“As a senator, I am fully committed to ADC. However, as the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, I don’t expect you to just hand me a card,” she stated, indicating her resolve despite not yet being formally issued an ADC membership card.

She emphasized that her move to the ADC coalition is a strategic decision rooted in the need to build a credible alternative capable of challenging the status quo in the next electoral cycle.

Also reaffirming their support for the coalition, 37 ADC state chairmen, including that of the FCT, pledged loyalty to the interim leadership currently spearheaded by former Senate President David Mark.

The ADC coalition was recently established by a group of opposition parties and political stakeholders seeking to present a unified front in the 2027 elections. The interim leadership, led by Mark and other prominent figures, has been tasked with building national structures, mobilizing grassroots support, and steering the coalition until a permanent leadership is elected.
