Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has cautioned governorship aspirants against embarking on early campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections, describing the move as a violation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines.

The warning was conveyed on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, during the governor’s monthly press briefing at the NUJ Secretariat in Lafia.

According to Ahemba, Governor Sule expressed concern that aspirants from both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties have already launched full-scale campaigns despite INEC not releasing its timetable.

“The governor considers this development a major distraction to his administration,” Ahemba said, stressing that political activities should be suspended until the electoral umpire officially gives the go-ahead.

Sule urged aspirants across party lines to “respect the laws of the land” and halt all political consultations and campaigns until INEC issues formal guidelines.

Checks across the state revealed campaign posters and billboards of several aspirants under the APC, including former Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu, Senator Ahmed Wadada, former NPHCDA Executive Secretary Dr. Faisal Shuaib, State Accountant-General Dr. Musa Ahmed Mohammed, and former NASENI Executive Chairman Engr. Mohammed Sani Haruna.

Similarly, posters of Barr. Hassan Mohammed, former Minister of Environment, and David Umbugadu, the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate, have also surfaced in different parts of the state.
