Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has officially sworn in the newly elected local government chairmen following their victory in the just-concluded local government elections held on Saturday.
The elections saw the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secure all chairmanship and councillorship positions. The swearing-in ceremony took place on Sunday afternoon, shortly after the chairmen received their certificates of return from the Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Bala Aliyu Gusau.
In his address during the event, Governor Lawal commended the electoral commission for conducting what he described as a credible, free, and fair election. He reaffirmed his commitment to local government autonomy, emphasizing its importance in fostering stronger and more effective grassroots governance.
“I am a strong advocate of local government autonomy, and my administration will ensure they remain independent to better develop their respective areas,” he stated.
The governor urged the newly inaugurated chairmen to align themselves with his administration’s seven-point agenda and contribute to the state’s development.
“I urge you to form a formidable team and join my administration in fulfilling my seven-point agenda,” he said. “Always remain in your domain and address the needs of your people to understand the challenges facing your communities better.”
Governor Lawal also expressed gratitude to the people of Zamfara for their unwavering support and cooperation in his administration’s efforts to transform the state.
“I want to thank the people for their continuous support. I assure you that I will do my very best to build a new Zamfara where everyone will be proud,” he promised.
The ceremony marks a new phase for grassroots governance in Zamfara, as the governor reaffirms his administration’s focus on accountability and development.
