The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily withdrawn the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results following the discovery of a technical glitch linked to a newly introduced security feature.

In a statement issued by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, the council explained that the anomaly was discovered during a post-release audit of the results, which were released earlier this week. The glitch reportedly affected key subjects, including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.

“The issue was traced to a new security measure paper serialisation introduced to curb examination malpractice,” Adesina stated. She explained that the serialisation method, modeled after practices already adopted by other national examination bodies, was being used for the first time this year.

However, technical bugs linked to the feature raised concerns about the accuracy of the released results.

“As a responsive and professional body, we have taken immediate steps to correct the anomalies,” she said, adding that access to the result-checking portal has been temporarily suspended
Adesina advised affected candidates to recheck their results after 24 hours, during which time the council expects to resolve the issue “with urgency and transparency.”

WAEC extended its apologies to candidates and the general public over the disruption and reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, transparency, and excellence in its examination processes.
