Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen has touched down in Nigeria ahead of the crucial AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda. The 25-year-old striker is set to link up with his teammates in Uyo after finalizing his loan move from Napoli to Galatasaray, following a long and complicated summer transfer saga.
Osimhen’s transfer became one of the major talking points of the summer, with clubs such as PSG, Al Ahli, and Chelsea showing strong interest in securing his services. Despite serious negotiations, Napoli was not satisfied with the offers on the table, leading to Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray only materializing after the transfer window closed.
At one point, Osimhen appeared close to joining Chelsea, but talks broke down when the striker rejected the wage package offered by the Premier League side.
Osimhen was initially expected to arrive at the Super Eagles camp earlier in the week but was delayed as he worked to complete his transfer to Galatasaray. According to reports by Buchi on X (formerly Twitter), “Victor Osimhen already reached out to the NFF & Eguavoen since Saturday to give them a brief of what’s happening regarding his future & his impending move to Galatasaray, and they gave him the permission to handle his business.”
Now, with his transfer behind him, the 2023 African Best Player has landed in Nigeria and is ready to join the Super Eagles squad as they prepare for their AFCON qualifiers.
