Manchester United’s interim manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy, confirmed that he is yet to make contact with incoming head coach Ruben Amorim regarding his future at the club, as he prepares the team for their Europa League clash.
Van Nistelrooy, appointed after Erik ten Hag’s recent departure, has overseen a 5-2 League Cup win over Leicester and a 1-1 Premier League draw with Chelsea.
Ahead of United’s Europa League match against Greek champions PAOK, Van Nistelrooy addressed questions on Wednesday about any communication with Amorim, who will assume the role on November 11.
Amorim made headlines himself this week, leading Sporting Lisbon to a commanding 4-1 victory over Manchester City.
“No, I didn’t have contact so far; there are no changes in that,” Van Nistelrooy stated, adding that he remains uncertain about when they’ll discuss the transition.
The Dutchman, who has expressed an interest in staying at Old Trafford, admitted his future remains unclear.
“It’s difficult to comment on that now.
I am waiting for conversations to take place,” he said during his pre-match press conference.
Focused on United’s European prospects, Van Nistelrooy emphasized his commitment to the immediate challenges.
“It’s a European night at Old Trafford against the Greek champions, currently second in their league.
I feel the responsibility to do well over the next week, and that’s my job,” he explained.
“I welcome Ruben; I am happy to help him, and that is the situation for the moment,” he added.
In a boost for the team, 18-year-old defender Leny Yoro returned to training on Wednesday after three months sidelined with a foot injury.
Yoro, who joined from Lille in July in a deal potentially worth €70 million, required surgery after a metatarsal injury in pre-season.
“He’s been managed very well after his injury in pre-season, obviously it was going to be a long one, and it’s a big moment for him,” Van Nistelrooy noted, hinting at Yoro’s potential contribution to the squad as he nears full fitness.
