UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned the terrorist attack that occurred on September 17 in Bamako, Mali, as stated by his spokesman.
“The secretary-general strongly condemns the terrorist attack in Bamako, Mali,” said Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the UN chief, in an official statement.
Guterres expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the transitional government and the people of Mali.
He also wished for a swift recovery for those injured, including a member of a UN guard unit.
The UN chief urged the Malian transitional government to ensure that those responsible for this despicable attack are held accountable.
The attack targeted a gendarmerie complex in Bamako, the capital, and the situation was reported to be under control by the Malian Ministry of Security and Civil Protection.
While the ministry did not disclose the exact number of casualties, media reports indicate that more than 70 people were killed and over 200 others wounded.
