The United Kingdom has officially opened applications for the prestigious Chevening Scholarships for the 2025 academic year, inviting aspiring leaders and professionals from around the world to apply between August 5 and October 7, 2025.

Administered by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the Chevening programme offers fully funded one-year master’s degrees at leading universities across the UK.

The scholarship targets individuals with a strong track record of leadership, academic excellence, and a commitment to driving positive change in their home countries and globally.

According to a statement from the British High Commission in Abuja, the Head of the Scholarships Unit at the FCDO, Emma Hennessey, emphasised that the programme is designed to empower future leaders who can make a real difference in the world.

She noted that the selection process is highly competitive, focusing on applicants with exceptional leadership and networking abilities, as well as the potential to influence change in their communities.

British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, highlighted the value of the programme, describing Chevening as more than just a scholarship.

He said it serves as a gateway to a powerful international network of changemakers, innovators, and leaders who are shaping the future.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to begin preparations early and access application guidance at chevening.org/guidance to enhance their chances of success. All applications must be submitted online through chevening.org/apply.

Launched in 1983, the Chevening Scholarship has supported more than 60,000 scholars from over 160 countries and territories, helping them gain world-class education and return home equipped to make a lasting impact.

The programme is funded by the UK government through the FCDO, in partnership with various international organisations.
