Authorities in the United Kingdom have announced temporary airspace restrictions and road closures in Windsor as part of heightened security arrangements ahead of the planned visit of Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to meet King Charles III.

The measures are expected to take effect during the president’s two-day visit scheduled for March 18 and 19 at Windsor Castle, where he will be hosted by the British monarch.

According to the Thames Valley Police, the restrictions form part of a comprehensive security operation designed to ensure the safety of dignitaries, residents and visitors during the high-profile diplomatic engagement.

Chief Superintendent Adrian Hall of the Joint Operations Unit said the airspace restrictions are only one component of the broader security arrangements.

“The air restrictions are just one part of our robust security operation for the state visit of Nigerian President Tinubu next week, with many measures you will see and others you will not,” Hall said.

Authorities explained that although there is already a permanent airspace restriction around Windsor Castle, it will be extended on March 18 from 7:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. to enhance security during the visit. Anyone who violates the restriction could face prosecution under the Air Navigation Order.

Security officials also disclosed that a large deployment of officers with specialist capabilities — including armed units, mounted police, search teams and roads-policing personnel — will be stationed across Windsor throughout the visit.

In addition, several roads and parking areas in and around the town will be temporarily closed from March 17, with authorities warning of possible disruptions to traffic during the period. Residents and visitors have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and use public transportation where possible.

Officials said the extensive planning reflects the significance of the visit, which is expected to attract global attention as Nigeria’s leader meets the British monarch for high-level diplomatic engagement.
