The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has called on its staff, School Support Officers (SSOs) in Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs), and other stakeholders to renew their dedication to advancing basic education in Nigeria.

In a statement, UBEC’s Head of Media and Public Relations, David Apeh, revealed that the commission’s Executive Secretary, Aisha Garba, made the appeal during the opening ceremony of a three-day training workshop in Abuja. The workshop was organized to enhance the capacities of LGEA SSOs from across the country.

Garba stressed the need for stakeholders to intensify their efforts in ensuring the effective implementation of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme. She underscored the importance of delivering quality basic education to Nigerian children, describing it as a collective responsibility.

Speaking at the event, the National Coordinator of the UBEC Digital Resource Centre, Prof. Bashir Galadanci, highlighted the pivotal role of SSOs in strengthening the nation’s basic education sector. He noted that SSOs play a critical role in quality assurance by mentoring and monitoring teachers and administrators at the grassroots level.

“This workshop is significant as it targets School Support Officers who are key to maintaining quality in schools. It is fitting that this marks the first UBEC-organized workshop under the leadership of the new Executive Secretary,” Galadanci stated.

The training workshop, themed “Empowering SSOs to Champion and Support Technology Integration,” aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to integrate educational technologies into the teaching process for improved learning outcomes. It also sought to enhance communication and collaboration between SSOs and school personnel to foster effective mentorship and support.

The initiative aligns with UBEC’s core mandate of ensuring the delivery of quality basic education to all Nigerian children.
