The highly anticipated heavyweight rematch between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk is set to headline the Riyadh Season event this Saturday, December 21, live on Sky Sports Box Office. As the two titans prepare to clash for the unified world heavyweight championship, Fury has emphatically shut down any talk of retirement, promising fans that he’s here to stay.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Fury declared: “Retirement? That stuff’s for the lame! I’m ready for action. Guaranteed satisfaction.” The 36-year-old heavyweight champion shared his passion for the sport, adding, “I enjoy being in the ring, being around fight week – I love every minute of it. Hence the reason I’m still doing it at 36 years old.”
Fury has been deep in preparation, isolating himself in a grueling training camp in Malta. With a reduced support team and minimal contact even with his wife, the self-proclaimed “Gypsy King” has focused solely on reclaiming the WBA, WBO, and IBF titles.
“I’m in beast mode,” Fury said confidently. “It’s been a tough, hard training camp. I’ve left no stones unturned, and I’m ready for Saturday night.”
Promoter Frank Warren revealed that a third fight between Fury and Usyk is already contracted, should the Ukrainian lose. However, if Fury is defeated, it could open the door to other lucrative bouts, including a long-awaited showdown with British rival Anthony Joshua.
“It’s up to Tyson. If he wants to fight Joshua and it’s there, it’s there,” Warren said. “After the last fight, people would still buy into it.”
Despite Joshua’s devastating fifth-round loss to Daniel Dubois in September, Fury expressed some sympathy for his compatriot. “I did feel a little bit sorry for him,” Fury admitted. “But it’s boxing. You know what you’re getting yourself into.”
However, Fury made it clear his motivation remains rooted in the spectacle and financial rewards of the sport. “I’m motivated by the big pay cheques, the big crowds, and the big events,” he said. “As long as that’s happening, I’ll keep doing what I need to do.”
