The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended two suspects accused of causing the death of a motor driver during an altercation in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, disclosed the incident in a statement issued in Abeokuta.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on December 13, 2024.

Alao Fadipe, a resident of Iyana Ikereku, reported witnessing a violent altercation near his home around 2:00 AM.

“At about 2:00 AM, Alao Fadipe reported that he observed individuals fighting by the roadside in front of his house.

Upon checking, he saw Olalere Timileyin, a truck driver, and his motor-boy, both associated with Lafarge Cement Itori Ewekoro, physically assaulting a man they accused of stealing their tarpaulin.

The victim eventually lost consciousness,” the statement read.

Police detectives from Obada Oko promptly responded to the scene, arresting the truck driver and his assistant.

The injured victim was rushed to the State Hospital Ijaye for medical attention but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The deceased’s body has been deposited at the morgue for an autopsy.

Meanwhile, the suspects are undergoing interrogation as authorities work to locate the victim’s family.

“The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, for further investigation,” Odutola stated.
