England manager Thomas Tuchel has voiced his frustration following a shock 3–1 defeat to Senegal in an international friendly, describing his team as “frozen” and lamenting their lack of urgency throughout the match.

Despite taking the lead through captain Harry Kane—who netted his 73rd goal for England—Tuchel’s side crumbled under pressure from the Lions of Teranga. Ismaila Sarr levelled the score just before half-time, before Habib Diarra and substitute Cheikh Sabaly added two more in the second half to seal a comprehensive win for Senegal at the City Ground in Nottingham.

Reflecting on his first defeat since taking charge of the national team, Tuchel acknowledged the team’s lacklustre display and the bitter taste of defeat.

“We felt a bit frozen, not active enough for a long time over the match,” Tuchel admitted. “We go into a long break with a bad feeling. It’s a disappointing result. I’m not sure if we did not deserve a little bit more result-wise.

“We conceded two very cheap goals and then had big chances to equalise. We didn’t… so the result is the result. It is tough learning at the moment because we hate to lose.”

The match ended to the sound of boos from the home crowd, reflecting the disappointment of fans who had expected a more
commanding performance against the former African champions.

What’s Next for England?

The Three Lions will resume their World Cup qualifying campaign in September, beginning with a home fixture against Andorra on the 6th, followed by an away clash with Serbia on the 9th. Tuchel will be under pressure to regroup and reignite England’s momentum heading into the crucial stages of qualification.
